Squid game inspired Dalgona honeycomb cocktail recipe banner

A cocktail recipe inspired by the Netflix Squid Game and garnished with homemade Dalgona candy.

If you havent heard of Squid Game yet, well, where the hell have you been? Squid game has totally taken over in the last week and is on track to become Netflix most watched show ever.

So if you haven’t seen it. You need to go watch it! If for anything, just to understand the memes taking up your social media feeds currently.

As I am the Mindful Mixologist. And personally loved the show. It was only a matter of time before I jumped on the trend and created something Squid Game inspired. And oh, what do you know, here we are.

This particular cocktail is inspired more specifically by the episode of Squid Game featuring the Dalgona Candy. That being the third episode "The Man with the Umbrella” Just in case you are yet to see Squid Game I’ll keep this spoiler free.

Basically, Dalgona is a korean “Sponge Candy” for all my fellow Brits reading this, its honeycomb. That beautifully tasty crunchy yellow sugar. Now the game here is simple. Each Dalgona has a stencil inprinted, you have an allotted amount of time to cut the shape out of the honeycomb without breaking the shape. Simple.

How to make Squid Games Dalgona at Home

Now for this cocktail, we will be garnishing the drink with Dalgona. Which means we need to make some! Dont worry, its super simple. It may take a few times to get it right but the process if super quick.

So here what you will need for your Squid Game Dalgona Garnish…

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoon white sugar

  • 1 Pinch of baking soda

  • Parchment paper

  • A stencil

Quick note on the stencil. Sugar and baking soda is probably something you already have. A nice size stencil however, will not be. Keep in mind we will be garnishing a delicate cocktail with this. So we need it to be pretty small. You could order small cookie cutters online. However if you just want to jump right in, think creatively and find something else you may have on hand. A circle is the easiest shape to make and you probably have something circle lying around already.

Personally, I used the rim of a shot glass.

Method

  • In a saucepan on a low heat, dump in your sugar. Wait for the sugar to start dissolving then lightly stir it till all the sugar has dissolved into a brown liquid. (This is caramel)

  • Add your pinch of baking soda and quickly stir. The colour will instantly become a yellowish/amber colour and start to puff up. This is your honeycomb, work quick because it hardens very quickly!

  • Pour your honeycomb into a circle shape on some parchment paper. Once it start to harden but is still soft (about 5 seconds) push your stencil half way through to create your shape.

Allow it to harden and there you have it. Korean Dalgona!

Now you have your Dalgona garnish it's time to get whipping up your cocktail.
