Just because you don’t drink, does not mean you have to give up on tasty treats like classic cocktails, and when it comes to Tequila, the first thing you may think and for good reason is the Margarita.

Margarita Mocktail

Margaritas are by far the most popular tequila cocktail. But with such a booze heavy base of Tequila and Triple sec and the only non-alcoholic ingredient being lime juice, it can be quite hard to recreate.

However… that being said Lyre’s has recently launched there non alcoholic tequila substitutes both in the UK and USA. Already in the Lyre’s range is a triple sec substitute they call orange sec.

So making a perfect Margarita alcohol free is not as difficult as you may of once thought.

In fact, making a Margarita alcohol free may just be easier then an alcoholic one. Without the booze to balance you can cut the sugar part out entirely, so you only need the 3 ingredients, and by using the recipe below without the mint, what you have is a perfectly balanced non-alc Margarita cocktail. result.

A Minty Twist

To add a little extra summat-summat to this non alcoholic Margarita with a pinch of summer vibes, I’ve gone with a minty twist. Not only is mint delicious, easy to work with in drinks and accessible for pretty much anyone, but by perfecting this minty marg, you in essence teach yourself how to create twists on Margaritas.

You can start swapping out the mint for other herbs you may prefer like basil, thyme, or a mix of both. You can also start adding onto the mint, how does cucumber and mint Margarita sound? Like it? just muddle a few cucumber chunks into the cocktail shaker and viola! cucumber and mint Margaritas all round.

Fancy something on the spicy side? Swap the mint entirely for chili, or keep the mint and make a non-alcoholic chili and mint Margarita.

You see, the possibilities to really make this Margarita unique to you are endless, but the start of all your creative marg mixing has to be this here minted Margarita.

Instructions

  1. Prepare your glass by rubbing a lime around the rim of a coupe, then dipping it in a plate of salt, leave your salt rimmed glass in the freezer whilst you make the cocktail.
  2. Add your ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.
  3. Fine strain into your ice cold and salted coupe and garnish with a sprig of mint, enjoy!

Notes

The mint leaves aren't traditional in a Margarita. However with this non-alcoholic margarita it really adds a sense of zest. I'd try it both ways, with and without the leaves, then see which you prefer.
