With Halloween round the corner, it’s time to brush up on your spooky recipes.

Whether it’s for 1 or 2 people, or a entire party, I’ve got you covered.

Recipes for everyone

This year I’m doing 3 signature Halloween cocktails with different levels of difficulty. This Toxic Waste will be the easiest out of the 3. Meaning it’s perfect for;

  • Home bartenders

  • Inexperienced cocktail makers

  • Anyone who wants an easy recipe to follow

  • Anyone who wants something quick to whip up with accessible ingredients

The Ingredients

You will need;

Apple infused whisky

You can use this apple skin gin recipe as a base, just swap out the gin for whisky. That being said I’ve used Swear Jars candied apple whisky which the recipe is actually based around and taste absolutely amazing.

Melon Liqueur

Any will be fine but if you can get a green coloured liqueur, that’ll work best for the toxic look. Midori is a good go to.

Fresh lime juice

Sugar syrup

You can buy sugar syrup but honestly, it’s so easy and cheap to make that i’d always recommend making it yourself. Also, if you plan on making more cocktails this is going to be an ingredient you use a lot, so it’s best to learn now. Just mix equal parts sugar with boiling water and stir. Once the sugar has dissolved cool and bottle and you’re done.

The Serve

The beauty about this cocktail is that’s it’s made, shaken and served in the same glass. Which is why this Halloween cocktail is super beginner friendly.

All you need is a jar with a tight fitting lid. Pour all the ingredients into the jar, screw on the lid and shake like your life depends on it. Open the lid and you’re ready to drink.

To give it more of a toxic look I wrap caution tape around the jar. You could do that or you could wrap decorative spider webs around it. Anything really, get creative with your jars. You could even write your own “Toxic Waste” labels and stick them on the jars.

Tips & Tricks for this cocktail

Because the cocktail is shaken and served in the jar, it makes it perfect for parties.

One fun idea is to pour all your ingredients into your jars - and don’t worry if the jars are different sizes, I think this makes a table of cocktails look even better. Decorate your jars and close up the lid. Leave a bowl of ice in the middle of the table and when people want the cocktail, they can add there own ice, tighten the lid and shake. It’s such a fun way to serve these and get everyone involved in the cocktail making process.

Another idea is to add food dye. You could have the classic green one which would be your toxic waste, then you could add red dye to others and have them be vampire blood, black dye to others, purple dye for witches brew and so on and so on.

I recommend food gel if you’re doing that. And if you want them to taste differently, swap out the melon liqueur for your favourite alternatives. Orange liqueurs, vanilla liqueurs and pineapple liqueurs all work great. If you’re going for orange, use blue curacao and you’ll have a blue cocktail without having to add blue dye.

All of the Halloween cocktails

I mentioned this is the easy cocktail recipe, if you want to move up a level after making this, try the Pumpkin Spice Martini recipe. After that if you consider yourself ready to tackle the advanced cocktail recipe, try the Black Death.

All of them can be made at home so don’t worry about that.

Wrap caution tape, spider webs or other Halloween decorations around your jars to give it a spooky look.
