Great For Making at Home
The whole point of these Strictly Cocktails I’m making is for you to be able to turn your Saturdays at home watching Strictly, into Strictly Saturday extravaganzas. Which cocktails do brilliantly.
But that doesn’t really work if the cocktails are over complicated and difficult to make.
Which is why at the heart of all these Strictly cocktails, is the focus of ease. Ease so you can recreate them at home with as little stress as possible.
The Rumba Dance
This cocktail is specifically inspired by the Rumba. Now I’m no dance expert (sorry Shirley Ballas) so bare with me.
Rumba is a secular genre of Cuban music involving dance, percussion, and song. It originated in the northern regions of Cuba, mainly in urban Havana and Matanzas, during the late 19th century. It is based on African music and dance traditions
Thanks Wikipedia.
Basically. It’s saucy dance which works great for Strictly because you’re either incredible amazed by how well a celebrity can turn up the heat and crank out a sexy Rumba on the ballroom floor. Or, you’re incredibly cringing at just how terrible they are.
So I had to make a Rumba cocktail. I couldn’t not. And hopefully, this is the one that if Strictly ever decided to do a spin off with regular non-celebrities, I’d be on the radar of BBC for.
The Cocktail Inspiration
To make this cocktail scream “Rumba” there’s a few key aspects we have to include.
Firstly, it has to be Cuban. This is a Cuban dance and we need to show that throughout. Which is why for the base spirit we’re going with Cuban Rum. Specifically, I used Havana Club. But you can use any dark Rum from Cuba.
Secondly, it has to be bright, fun, and exotic. Which is why we’re using that Guava juice to sweeten it up and give it some vibrant colouring paired with that winding bamboo leaf.
Third and finally, it had to be provocatively seductive. It had to have some sass. Or as my dear old Nanna would say… It needs to be spunky! (horrible word). Which is why we’re serving it in that elegant glass and which is also why we’re using passionfruit. Get it? Passion fruit? it’s full of… passion.
Anyway…
The Strictly Pack
The reason I’m doing this in the first place is because every year I spend my Saturday locked indoors watching Strictly and every year I make it more and more of an event. Each week with drinks and games. Almost like a mini Strictly party every Saturday for 13 weeks.
This year I’m putting all of those props, games, and drinks into a pack which you can get so you’re able to have your own mini Strictly Saturday’s every week.
Check it out below.
It’s basically everything you would need to throw a Strictly party. But word of warning, be careful with that drinking game. It’s a killer!
You can also purchase it on Etsy if you prefer, check it out on Etsy here.
